About the role

We are seeking a strong leader with sound judgement and great stakeholder engagement skills to join our Commonwealth Government client as an EL1 Assistant Director, Energy Rating Support. The successful candidate will oversee a small team responsible for reviewing enquiries, investigating and synthesising information to compile responses, coordinating across the Branch for more complex enquiries, and sending back responses to stakeholders in a timely manner. An initial 6-month labour hire contract is on offer, with the possibility of extension. This role is full time and based in Canberra, ACT (flexible working arrangements will be considered on a case by case basis).

Please note: only Australian citizens with an ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance will be considered for this role.

Duties

- Research and interpret complex information, including legislation and technical documents, and communicate findings clearly in plain English.
- Oversee the daily operations of a public-facing enquiries inbox, guiding team members in understanding queries and identifying appropriate responses.
- Handle complex enquiries directly, escalate when needed, and support resolution of issues raised by the team.
- Provide advice and briefings on complex issues to senior stakeholders.
- Lead projects aligned with team priorities, such as strategy development, implementation planning, and data improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure alignment on upcoming changes, system updates, and their potential impacts on stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal colleagues, external partners, and subject matter experts.
- Promote continuous improvement in enquiry handling processes, ensuring service standards and compliance requirements are met.
- Lead a small team, manage workflow and performance, and foster a positive and productive team culture.

Mandatory Qualification

- Tertiary qualifications are required. Preferred areas of study in energy, engineering, business, government, program management, regulation, audit, compliance or similar.

Requisite skills/experience

- Ability to investigate, interpret and communicate advice regarding legislation and technical documentation in a simple and easy to understand manner.
- Effective leadership skills, with experience in managing staff and adjusting leadership style to support the individual members of the team.
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, and experience using Teams and SharePoint.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively at all levels and with diverse stakeholders. Ability to build strong and positive working relationships.
- A can-do personality with a track record of demonstrating initiative, attention to detail and good skilled judgement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify and communicate complex information.
- Initiative, attention to detail, problem solving skills and sound professional judgement for the delivery of high-quality outcomes and assurance processes.
- Strategic thinking and engagement to connect work within and across teams to inform high quality and connected outcomes.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, with effective time management for self and team, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Experience using a CRM or other registration or grants system is preferred.
- Experience working in program delivery or a regulatory setting is preferred.
