About the opportunity
The ED Nurse Practitioner provides advanced, autonomous, and collaborative clinical care for patients presenting with lower acuity conditions to the Emergency Department. This role is critical in improving patient flow, reducing wait times, and enhancing the overall efficiency of ED operations. The ED NP applies expert clinical judgment and advanced nursing knowledge to assess, diagnose, and manage patients in a timely manner. Responsibilities include initiating and interpreting diagnostic investigations, prescribing medications, and implementing therapeutic interventions within the legislatively protected scope of practice. The NP functions as an independent practitioner while working closely with Emergency Physicians, Senior Medical Officers, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, evidence-based care. The role also encompasses clinical leadership, education, and contribution to research and quality improvement initiatives, supporting innovative models of care that align with organisational goals and NMBA Nurse Practitioner Standards for Practice.
Qualifications
* Degree in Nursing which meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) (Essential)
* Post Graduate Qualification in Emergency Nursing (or equivalent) (Essential)
* AHPRA certification (Essential)
* A course of study and clinical experience that in the opinion of the NMBA qualifies the nurse to use the title Nurse Practitioner: Emergency Department and is fully endorsed (Essential)
Experience and Requirements
* Extensive experience in Emergency Department or urgent care settings.
* Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
* Compliance with NMBA Nurse Practitioner Standards for Practice.
* Advanced clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills.
* Contribution to research, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining:
* A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
* Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with public health orders.
