About us
The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is the leading advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College is a not-for-profit organisation that represents more than 8600 surgeons and 1300 surgical trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates.

RACS also supports healthcare and surgical education in the Asia-Pacific region and is a substantial funder of surgical research. There are nine surgical specialties in Australasia being: Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery.

About the Role

Reporting to the Executive General Manager, Education Pathways, you will lead a high-performing team focused on research, accreditation, quality assurance, and government-funded initiatives. You will drive RACS’ strategic research agenda, overseeing key programs such as FATES and the Specialist Training Program (STP), and ensure compliance with AMC accreditation standards.

You will also:

* Lead the design and implementation of a robust monitoring and evaluation framework.
* Oversee hospital training post accreditation aligned with AMC standards.
* Guide research projects that advance surgical education and healthcare equity.
* Disseminate research outcomes across academic and professional platforms.
* Foster a high-performance team culture and stakeholder collaboration.

About You
To thrive in this role, you will bring:

* A PhD or equivalent postgraduate qualification in research, with extensive experience in healthcare or education research and evaluation.
* Proven leadership of complex research programs and teams.
* Strong experience in accreditation, quality assurance, and M&E frameworks.
* Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* A track record in securing funding and working with government and academic partners.
* Experience in medical education or health membership organizations is highly regarded.
