Our Branch
Compliance and Regulatory Services (CARS) supplies services which help make Brisbane a fairer and safer place 24/7. Our focus is our Community Value, and we engage with people across the city in a consistent and responsive way, makingstrong decisionsto resolve problems and deliver solutions.
The CARS Community Standards, Health & Biosecurity Section is divided into five dynamic work areas.all working together to deliver compliance services and provide the highest level of community value to Brisbane residents.The Advertising and Development team where this role sits, investigates community reports about development and the use of premises to ensure compliance with relevant approvals and the application of strong, evidence-based decision making that protects Brisbane's amenity and liveability.
The Role
We areseekinga motivated and values‑driven leader to guide and support a team of technically skilled Built Environment Officers. This role provides day‑to‑day leadership across our building,developmentand land‑use compliance functions, ensuring consistent,high‑quality decisions that protect Brisbane's people,propertiesand neighborhoods.
As a Built Environment Supervisor, you will set clear expectations, support capability development, champion change, and contribute to business planning and continuous improvement.You will lead complex or sensitive matters,provideexpert advice, and act as an escalation point for development and land use issues, including representing Council in without‑prejudice meetings and court proceedings whenrequired.
This role offers a unique opportunity to expand your leadership capability, work across other disciplines through rotational supervision, and influence strategic compliance outcomes for the city.
To be successful you will have:
* demonstrated capability to inspire performance excellence, support team development and role‑model values‑based leadership
* experience leading teams through change, fostering engagement and supporting staff development
* thorough knowledge of legislation, local laws,codesand policies related tobuiltenvironment compliance
* highly developed interpersonal skills enabling you to build strong relationships with staff,stakeholdersand customers
* strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to resolve complex issues and negotiate outcomes
* high‑level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead sensitive discussions and represent Council in formal settings.
