The Role
The Offshore Patrol and Specialist Ships Branch, within the Defence Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG), is seeking a motivated APS 5 Project Support Officer to support the Australian Government’s continuous Naval Shipbuilding programs.
You will be part of a multi-functional team providing shared business and Project Management support to a range of complex and critical maritime projects. Working under limited direction in an integrated project environment, you will undertake moderately complex procedural, operational and business support activities.
The role involves interpreting legislation, policy and procedures, and providing informed advice to stakeholders within the project management support function. This position requires a proactive individual with experience in a project support environment, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
You will be supported through mentoring and training, with opportunities for professional development and career growth within Defence.
Key Responsibilities include:
* Provide effective project and administrative support to meet business and organisational objectives.
* Identify risks and develop practical solutions to mitigate or manage them.
* Undertake research and analysis.
* Review contract and documentation, and resolve routine compliance issues.
* Contribute to planning, reporting and governance activities.
* Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders to identify issues and support project outcomes.
* Maintain professional knowledge and contribute to the achievement of work unit priorities.
About our Team
The Offshore Patrol and Specialist Ships Branch contribute to continuous naval shipbuilding and support key enablers within the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Plan. The Branch is currently managing the acquisition of the Arafura class Offshore Patrol Vessels, Young Endeavour Replacement, Evolved Cape Class Patrol Boats and a number of other complex minor vessel and littoral procurements.
Based in Canberra, the Branch has a diverse workforce of Australian Public Servants, ADF members and industry partners who work collaboratively to support continuous naval ship building through delivery of minor vessel programs and projects.
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
* Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn Commonwealth legislative and policy frameworks (e.g. PGPA Act, procurement rules).
* Strong document control, reporting and records management capability.
* Experience with project tools or corporate systems used in large organisations.
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to risk identification and mitigation; undertake research, analysis and briefing support.
* Manage competing priorities in a high tempo environment.

Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at Baseline Vetting level.
