About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Accountant to join our team, providing comprehensive accounting and financial services to small and medium-sized business clients. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, leadership capabilities, and a thorough understanding of Australian tax laws and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and lodge BAS, GST, and Business Activity Statements accurately and on time
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and reconciliations using accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks
- Prepare tax returns for individuals, companies, and trusts in compliance with Australian tax legislation
- Provide accurate financial reporting and analysis to support business decision-making
- Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards and regulations
- Manage payroll processing including superannuation contributions and employee entitlements
- Lead and supervise a small accounting team, providing guidance, training, and performance management
- Liaise directly with clients to gather financial information and provide expert advice
- Assist with end-of-year financial statements and audits
- Support continuous process improvements and implement best practices within the accounting function
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in small business services or public practice
- Proficient in Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong knowledge of BAS, GST, and Australian tax legislation
- Excellent understanding of Australian accounting standards and business accounting principles
- Experience managing and mentoring a small team
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and colleagues
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines
Desirable:
- CPA or CA qualification or progress towards certification
- Experience with payroll systems and compliance
- Knowledge of industry-specific accounting software or reporting tools
Working Conditions:
