, the Senior Lecturer, Social Work and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Curriculum Coordinator provides academic and cultural leadership in learning and teaching through the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of social work programs and curriculum that respectfully integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of Knowing, Doing and Being.
As a senior member of the Social Work team, you will play a key role in achieving excellence in culturally responsive Social Work education and research at ACU, ensuring the integration of theory, research, practice, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in preparing students for professional Social Work practice. ACU is committed to graduating culturally responsive and empathetic professionals who have engaged deeply with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' Knowings and perspectives throughout their studies, can work respectfully alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and possess the cultural capability to connect meaningfully with diverse communities while recognising and honouring the inherent dignity of every person and culture.
Social work curricula are guided by national professional accreditation standards that require students to graduate with the capacity to engage in culturally responsive and ethical practice. Working with external stakeholders in local and national contexts, you will build capacity and cultural responsiveness of social work academic staff while fostering relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Elders and relevant State-based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health groups.
In line with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Curriculum Framework, the focus encompasses embedding culturally driven learning outcomes at appropriate curriculum points, considering the social, physical, spiritual and emotional health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures throughout the lifespan. Through this integrated approach to academic leadership and cultural expertise, the position strengthens the capacity of social work academic staff to develop culturally capable graduates who will positively impact health and social service delivery with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Key Responsibilities
Provide discipline-specific cultural and academic expertise and leadership regarding the embedding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of Knowing, Doing and Being into the Bachelor of Social Work curriculum at Canberra.
Develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate social work programs and curriculum.
Build capacity and cultural responsiveness of social work academic staff.
Foster relationships with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Community Elders and relevant state-based health groups.
Support culturally responsive practice and research in professional social work.
What We Offer
Academic Level C: total remuneration valued to $178,414 – $193,705 total rem (pro rata) pa, including salary component $151,018 – $164,087 (pro rata) pa.
17% employer superannuation contributions.
Annual leave loading equivalent to 17.5% of four weeks' salary pro rata.
