Location: QLD, WA, ACT, VIC, NSW, SA + Hybrid working arrangements
If based in the ACT, the successful candidate will be required to attend the Canberra office 2 days per week. If based outside ACT, the successful candidate may be required to attend state office or regional hubs and may be required to travel to the Canberra office one week per month or as required. Individual arrangements can be negotiated with Managers where required.

The Test Automation Specialist Lead role is critical to maintaining the department's test automation capability and ensuring quality assurance delivery across multiple key technology programs and projects.
This role will be responsible for leading the delivery and sustainment of the organisation's automation test strategy, frameworks and governance and will also be play a key role in identifying automation opportunities for critical applications, implementing automated health/sanity checks, lead automation delivery across multiple projects and releases and ensure that CI/CD pipelines incorporate reliable automated testing capabilities .
The automation capability is fundamental to delivering frequent, stable, and high-quality releases across the ICT portfolio.
This role involves coordinating and managing testing efforts across multiple teams with diverse stakeholders and ensuring that testing is conducted effectively to meet Quality Assurance goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Working as part of a dynamic ICT environment, the specified role is required, but not limited to managing and delivering testing services such as;
* Refine, implement, and maintain the overall test automation strategy in line with the organisation's Testing and Quality Assurance standards, and best practices.
* Lead the design and evolution of scalable automation frameworks This includes integration with a diverse suite of applications developed in various programming languages.
* Provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise in test automation and mentoring including framework architecture, coding standards, and best practices.
* Proactively collaborate with key stakeholders such as DevOps team, cloud team, delivery leads, architects, and developers to embed automation into processes and CI/CD pipelines throughout the SDLC.
* Support manual testing activities whenever required.
* Establish and track quality metrics, test coverage, and automation ROI; provide regular status and risk reporting to stakeholders.
* Conduct root‑cause analysis for defects and quality issues, driving corrective actions and continuous improvement.
* Ensure compliance with security, performance, and regulatory requirements where applicable.
* Oversee test data management, environment readiness, and the reliability of automated test execution.
* Champion quality assurance principles across ICT, influencing stakeholders to adopt automation‑first approaches.
* Communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
* Contribute to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release readiness activities.
* Stay current with emerging automation technologies and recommend improvements to frameworks and processes.
Technical skills:
• Extensive experience designing and implementing automation frameworks for UI, API, integration, and end to end testing.
• Strong hands on capability with one or more automation tools such as TOSCA, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or Postman.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages used in automation (Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript).
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and experience integrating automated tests into tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab, or GitHub
