Job Description

What is your opportunity? The Enterprise Control Testing (ECT) is a 1st LOD line independent control governance, monitoring and testing function. ECT executes control assessments for Personal & Commercial Banking's key control inventory. As Manager, Control Assurance, you will be a domain subject matter expert in risk management practices and control assessment programs. In addition, you will be expected to be a key liaison between the Business Operational Risk Management stakeholders through the control assessment lifecycle and reporting.


What will you do?

* Executing design effectiveness assessments and/or operating effectiveness assessments for assigned key controls.
* Concluding on the overall effectiveness of assigned key controls and reporting results to control owners.
* Documenting control assessment outputs and conclusions in a timely manner.
* Ensuring control assessment outputs are accurate and complete.
* Providing feedback and opportunities for improvements on the design and/or operating effectiveness to the control owner, where appropriate.
* Using approaches such as reviewing process documentation or performing process walkthroughs of the control activity, as required, to obtain a sufficient understanding of how the control activity is intended to be performed (i.e., the control's design) so that factors relating to the strength of control design can be evaluated.
* Executing operating effectiveness assessments by way of sample‑based testing, or performing data analysis to drive meaningful conclusions about the effectiveness of the key control.
* Negotiating findings and issues to be raised with control owners and their leadership, including issuing closing memos with observations, findings, and/or issues from testing.


What do you need to succeed?

* 5+ years of experience working in risk and control assessment, control testing, and/or broader risk management capacity.
* Strong knowledge of leading operational risk practices and regulatory expectations, including with respect to controls.
* Advanced knowledge of risk and control identification and assessment.
* Progressive experience in the financial services industry, with knowledge of industry processes, including data collection and its application to processes/controls.
* Skill and judgment to effectively deal with and influence business partners, stakeholders, and senior management.
* Proven skill in handling conflict, strategic thinking, and decision making in a time‑sensitive environment, meticulous attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
* University undergraduate level education in business, finance, and/or applied sciences.
* Will communicate and interact frequently with RBC partners and/or employees located across Canada and/or globally.


Nice‑to‑have

* Familiarity with GL reconciliation.
* COSO/CRM certification.


CPA / CGA Designation

Not required but beneficial.
