The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) is the nation's peak council of business organisations and the authoritative voice of Australian business. As Australia's largest and most representative business association, the Australian Chamber speaks at a national and international level on behalf of the nation's peak State and Territory Chambers of Commerce and Industry and National Industry Associations from all sectors of the economy.
The Position
The primary focus of the position is to contribute to the economic and industry policy development and advocacy work of ACCI, for the benefit of members and business at large.
The Economics, Industry, Sustainability policy unit is responsible for developing and advocating the Australian Chamber's positions in relation to economic & fiscal policy, taxation, regulation, productivity, competition, industry policy, environment and energy, infrastructure and the digital economy.
Responsibilities of the position include research on economic and public policy issues, preparation of submissions and other written material, collating surveys and presenting results, drafting media statements and briefings, and supporting members' meetings. The position will also involve international policy exchange, so working hours may vary to participate in international meetings via phone or video.
Key Responsibilities
* Research and analyse public policy issues
* Economic analysis, including evaluating and summarising relevant data.
* Contribute to submissions, draft briefings, policy and agenda papers, media releases, articles and other written material.
* Monitor news and other sources for relevant developments
* Develop and maintain networks with members, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders
* Compile survey data and present results.
* Respond to member enquiries.
* Provide secretariat support to the EIS policy committees
* Integrate the policy work of the International Chamber of Commerce and the Business at the OECD (BIAC) with ACCI's national policy work.
General Responsibilities
* Other general work as directed by the Chief of Policy and Advocacy and the Chief Economist.
* Work cooperatively with other ACCI staff.
* Provide other support to the work of the policy unit.
Key Selection Criteria
* Education: A Minimum bachelor's degree in economics.
* Experience: At least three to five years of relevant professional experience in a similar role or field.
* Economics Knowledge: demonstrated understanding of macroeconomics and microeconomics principles, with the ability to apply them in practical and policy contexts.
* Policy Analysis: Ability to research and analyse public policy issues, including interpreting statistical information.
* Written Communication: Ability to prepare a variety of written material, including submissions, briefings (both for members and internal) and media releases.
* Policy Committee support: Provide secretariat support to ACCI policy committees.
* Teamwork: Capacity to work cooperatively in a small team, including working on own initiative.
* Time management: Ability to manage conflicting priorities within a dynamic environment, and to work under time pressure.
* Political Knowledge: Knowledge of government processes and Australian politics with a strong understanding of the key influencers in the portfolio area.
* Empathy: an understanding of, and empathy for, the role and issues facing business
