Central Goldfields Shire Council is entering a critical phase of organisational maturity, with a strong focus on governance excellence, risk management, and accountability. This senior leadership role will influence Council's integrity, compliance, and long-term sustainability.
Reporting to the General Manager Corporate Services, the Manager Governance and Risk will lead the governance and risk functions, driving continuous improvement across compliance frameworks, audit, and organisational risk practices. The role provides expert advice to the Executive Leadership Team and Councillors on complex governance, legislative, and integrity matters, ensuring best practice and transparency across the organisation.
Responsibilities
* Lead the governance and compliance framework and oversee internal audit processes.
* Manage Council and committee meeting governance and deliver high-quality strategic advice to support decision-making.
* Drive the development and implementation of risk management frameworks, including strategic and operational risk registers, business continuity planning, and insurance management.
* Provide expert guidance on governance, legislative, and integrity matters to the Executive Leadership Team and Councillors.
* Work collaboratively across all departments, with Councillors, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to strengthen governance maturity and risk capability.
* Support accountability and transparency to align with statutory responsibilities, including information access, privacy, and related compliance duties.
Qualifications
* Experience in governance, compliance, risk management, and legislative frameworks within complex or regulated environments (local government, public sector, or similarly regulated industries).
* Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and deliver high-quality governance and risk programs.
* Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills with the ability to operate at executive and Council levels.
* Tertiary qualifications in governance, risk, or a related discipline are preferred, supported by extensive practical experience.
