The Head of Engineering and Sales is a newly created, strategically critical leadership role designed to strengthen and align the Engineering and Sales functions, modernise capability, and ensure continual development of staff to support market expectations and growth. The role provides strategic oversight of the Engineering function and leadership of the Sales team, with a mandate to drive best practice, uplift technical capability, enhance customer engagement, and embed streamlined, modern systems and processes across the business.
A critical requirement is developing a deep understanding of the business—its products, manufacturing processes, customer applications, technical challenges, and operational environment—while strengthening stakeholder relationships across shared internal resources, and core suppliers.
The clear instruction from my client is; identify a professional Engineering driven Sales Manager who will take full ownership of their role, balancing leadership with a willingness to be hands‐on when required, whilst demonstrating an ability to embed themselves as a key senior member of the Leadership team in the creation and implementation of the strategic direction of the business.
Key Objectives of the Role
* Provide strategic leadership across the Engineering and Sales business units.
* Build and maintain deep technical and commercial understanding of the business to guide decision‐making and customer engagement.
* Strengthen stakeholder relationships across group shared services, PDC (Product Development Centre), suppliers, and operational teams.
* Ensure continuity of critical knowledge sharing through structured succession planning for retiring team members.
* Drive stronger alignment between engineering capability and commercial strategy.
* Support a highly capable and stable Sales team through leadership, strategic customer engagement, and forward planning.
* Participate hands‐on in Engineering when required to support key projects, solve problems, or provide technical leadership.
* Champion the business's transformation agenda—improving capability, streamlining systems, and modernising processes.
At this stage the most critical selection point is that you will have graduated with a Tertiary Engineering Degree gained in Mechanical, Materials, Chemical, Plastics, Polymer, or related fields, with a minimum 5–10 years' demonstrable successful experience in engineering, manufacturing, product development, or application engineering roles in those technical fields.
Although a strong level of commercial acumen gained in client‐facing/engagement roles applying engineering knowledge into customer applications and product solutions is desirable; commercial capability and leadership can be developed with support from the Group GM.
