Curtin University is proud to play a pivotal role in the newly established Additive Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre (AMCRC), a national initiative advancing Australia’s manufacturing capability through cutting-edge industrial 3D printing. As part of this, Curtin has invested in the Photon Forge Additive Manufacturing (PFAM) Facility, a world-class hub within the John de Laeter Centre (JdLC), where research excellence meets real-world impact.

**About the Role**:
**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Developing a framework to identify and prioritise components suitable for metal additive manufacturing.
- Collaborating with defence, marine, and advanced manufacturing partners to align research with operational needs.
- Operating and optimising metal additive manufacturing systems and ensuring safe, effective production.
- Testing and characterising manufactured parts using microscopy and materials analysis.
- Translating research into commercially relevant outcomes, helping strengthen Australia’s sovereign capability.

**Who we are looking for - Selection Criteria**:

- Experience in additive manufacturing or related advanced manufacturing processes.
- Strong grounding in materials science, with exposure to testing and characterisation techniques.
- Skills in data analytics, AI or machine learning, applied to engineering challenges.
- Confidence working with diverse stakeholders - from industry engineers to government partners.
- Strong communication skills, with a record of publications or technical reporting.
- Desirable:_
- Experience with maritime, defence, aerospace, or related sectors will be highly regarded.

**Role Requirements**:

- Ability to work or attend meetings outside of traditional business hours.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

**Your new Team - Photon Forge Additive Manufacturing (PFAM) Facility**:
The PFAM Facility is a current strategic investment within Curtin University’s John de Laeter Centre (JdLC), one of Australia’s largest and most advanced research infrastructure hubs. Building on JdLC’s $50 million suite of world-class instruments, PFAM places Curtin at the forefront of industrial 3D printing, enabling innovation across maritime, defence, energy, mining and other key sectors. Together, PFAM and JdLC provide researchers and industry partners with cutting-edge capabilities in materials characterisation, corrosion science, and additive manufacturing, creating a powerful platform for collaborative research and tangible outcomes.
