Paediatrician in Training

The Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital and the Rural Clinical School are offering a unique training position for a paediatrician in training.
This is an opportunity to gain experience in acute, emergency, neonatal high dependency care and outpatient paediatrics. The position includes 50% allocation of time to teaching, research, academic and remote work. There will be the opportunity to participate in remote area clinics.
Good communication skills and experience working with Aboriginal families would be beneficial in this role. This position would suit someone with a passion for Aboriginal and rural health who is planning a career in rural and remote paediatrics.
You will be working with a team of experienced rural paediatricians and several registrars and RMOs. A strong team of resident consultant paediatricians will provide close supervision and support in each of our hospitals while also giving opportunities for independent practice.
The position is offered for a 12-month term although 6-month terms can be considered.

Responsibilities:
* 24X7 roster sharing with other junior doctors as first on call, supported by consultant second on call, including some weekend covers.
* Inpatient cover for paediatric ward, maternity and SCN. Review of ED paediatric patients as required and admitting them.
* Outpatient clinic, remote clinic attendance including Griffith's clinic.
* Attend multi-disciplinary team meetings fortnightly and ward review meetings and M&M meetings.
* Teaching of Junior staff, hospital RMOs and medical students.

Requirements:
* Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia.
* Enrolled in Paediatrics Training Program, Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent programs and demonstrates satisfactory progression appropriate for a trainee.
* Demonstrated current clinical experience in paediatrics and the management of acutely unwell children and neonates.
* Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with highly developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
* Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching of resident, nursing staff and medical students.
* Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance (Patient Safety and Quality), quality assurance, continuous improvement, and clinical research in the field of paediatrics and adolescent health.
* Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the Aboriginal Cultural Respect Framework.
* Current C Class driver's license and an ability and willingness to travel including overnight stays away from home.
* Experienced or interest in rural paediatric practice in rural setting.
* Possession of current Advanced Life Support, Advanced Paediatric Life Support or Emergency Management of Severe Trauma certificates.
* Demonstrated ability to monitor and review own effectiveness.
* Experience working with clients from a variety of cultural / ethnic backgrounds.
