The Opportunity
Thyme's menu has been created by well‐known Melbourne chef, restauranteur, cookbook author and television presenter, Karen Martini – showcasing locally sourced, seasonal produce served alongside excellent coffee, herbal tea blends, local cold‐pressed juices and signature cocktails.
This is a hands‐on leadership role within a fast‐paced, high‐volume kitchen environment. The Head Chef will thrive during busy service periods, leading from the front while maintaining exceptional standards and consistency.
As a key member of the leadership team, you will build strong relationships with operational leaders and partner with the Food & Beverage Services Manager to ensure a seamless, elevated guest experience across all touchpoints.
The Head Chef is responsible for leading and overseeing all kitchen operations, including coordinating the kitchen team and managing the preparation and delivery of high‐quality dishes. This role ensures that food standards, consistency and presentation are maintained at the highest level while upholding strict hygiene and food safety practices across the department at all times.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, mentor and inspire a high‐performing kitchen team
* Oversee daily kitchen operations in a fast‐paced, high‐volume environment, ensuring quality, consistency and efficiency
* Collaborate on menu development, working closely with Karen Martini
* Manage stock, ordering and supplier relationships
* Monitor food costs and drive cost control initiatives without compromising quality
* Ensure compliance with all food safety, hygiene and WH&S standards
* Work closely with the Food & Beverage team to deliver seamless high‐quality guest experiences
* Contribute as an active member of the leadership team, supporting broader business objectives and culture

About You
* You have a culinary qualification
* You have 5+ years of experience in a similar position
* You have advanced knowledge of food professional principles and practices
* You have excellent knowledge of purchasing and ordering systems
* You are guest‐centric, a team player and have a positive attitude
* You are capable, reliable and responsible
* You have a valid visa or working rights for Australia
