Closure And Environmental Liabilities Specialist The opportunity

As our Closure and Environmental Liabilities Specialist, you will have experience in providing technical advice regarding closure strategies, closure cost estimating, and closure implementation across the mining, oil and gas, and/or energy sectors.

The EY Climate Change and Sustainability Services Team has recently been recognised by Verdantix as the global leader in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) consulting. Our Oceania business comprises a multidisciplinary team of more than 250 passionate professionals providing support and advice to clients across all market sectors. We are the leading sustainability consulting practice in Oceania, working across the full spectrum of sustainability and climate change issues, including ESG strategy and due diligence, outcomes measurement, climate risk and decarbonisation, and environmental liabilities. We have a strong focus on the technical development of our teams and developing the next generation of sustainability professionals.

This is a hybrid position and we are open to locations all around Australia. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Your Key Responsibilities
* Support our clients to manage their asset closure strategies and costs.
* Support EY's financial assurance teams to assess the reasonableness of closure plans and cost estimates that underlie our clients' reported closure and environmental provisions.
* Clearly communicate findings and recommendations to key internal and external stakeholders.
* Contribute to strategy, solutions, methodologies, analytical frameworks and tools to help clients succeed and navigate complex regulatory environments and manage stakeholder expectations associated with asset closures.
* Support ESG due diligence and sustainability assurance and advisory services, especially across the resources and other heavy industry sectors.
* Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key business decision-makers, both internally and externally.
* Identify and communicate trends, developments, and key performance drivers relevant to our clients, while demonstrating a deep understanding of asset closure, rehabilitation, and closure risks and opportunities.
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team across a range of industries on environmental management related challenges.
Skills And Attributes For Success
* Knowledge of, and experience in, cost estimating/modelling for the closure/rehabilitation of large resources assets.
* Understanding of common asset closure techniques, materials, and equipment.
* Ability to understand complex risks associated with asset closure.
* Tertiary degree in a related field, preferably Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and / or Finance or similar disciplines.
* Ability to work in a fast‐paced, dynamic team and environment.
* Outstanding project and time management skills and written and oral communication skills.
Additional Preferred Skills
* Knowledge of closure policy, legislation, guidance and standards across Australia as well as a good understanding of the legislative trends relating to asset closure.
* Experience completing or participating in financial assurance processes.
* Experience working on operating sites.
