Primary objective
Develop, manage, and lead pharmacy service operations at Royal Darwin Palmerston Hospitals (RDPH) to ensure the delivery of a high
quality, culturally appropriate and effective hospital pharmacy and medicines distribution service.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership, induction, guidance, mentoring, support and expert advice to staff to ensure the effective delivery of a pharmacy
and medicines distribution service to RDPH and other NT Health sites.
2. Lead and develop the pharmacy technician team across RDPH, including development and evaluation of expanded technician roles.
1. Provide expert advice to the Senior Pharmacist – Medicines Contracts to support effective management and oversight and ensure
best value in purchasing medicines across NT Health.
1. Co-ordinate the ordering, purchasing, receipt, recall, and storage of all medicines in accordance with legislation and departmental
policies.
1. Co-ordinate the management of the pharmacy dispensing and stock control system including training of staff, development of
workflows and standard operating procedures, maintenance of data, and provision of reports. Liaise with vendors and department
business analysts to ensure business continuity.
1. Maintain a commitment to ensuring contemporary knowledge, leadership practices, and professional development.
2. Assist the Director with the administration of the department, including human resource and financial management, and
improvements in medication management within the Health Service and across the NT.
1. Evaluation of systems and processes within the pharmacy department to drive quality improvement in operational areas.
2. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
3. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or relevant qualification in Pharmacy and unconditional registration as a pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
2. Extensive contemporary experience in hospital pharmacy, preferably in a tertiary hospital setting, with proven capacity to coordinate
and manage pharmacy services.
3. Experience and proficiency in stock control and inventory management as it relates to hospital pharmacy, including an understanding
of legislative requirements, and sound knowledge of pharmacy computer systems and their interface with hospital IT systems.
4. Demonstrated leadership, communication, negotiation, and change management skills including the ability to develop and maintain
trust, establish clear goals and exercise fair and objective judgement.
5. Extensive experience in line-management, supervision, mentoring and continuing education of staff.
1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in researching, analysing, coordinating information and providing concise, relevant and
timely advice, briefings and written reports for a variety of audiences.
Desirable
1. Experience in financial resource management
2. Postgraduate qualifications or research experience in hospital pharmacy or management
