We are seeking a skilled and motivated Communications Technician to join our team and support our growing operations in Toowoomba.
The Role:
As a Communications Technician at EDGE ICT, you will play a critical role in maintaining, repairing, installing, and upgrading telecommunications systems. You will work closely with our internal teams and clients, ensuring systems operate efficiently and reliably. This hands-on role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain, repair, install, and upgrade telecommunications equipment for phone and data services.
* Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and replacement of faulty components.
* Conduct diagnostic testing and follow fault-finding instructions from equipment suppliers.
* Complete run-up and pre-testing of equipment before deployment onsite or for third-party installation.
* Run, fit-off, and test data and coaxial cabling according to solution requirements.
* Conduct audits and document voice/data infrastructure at customer sites.
* Provide technical design recommendations to the sales team and assist with quoting processes.
* Complete job sign-offs with notes and parts used via Service M8 application.
* Ensure maintenance routines are adhered to and documented.
* Test and repair all systems and services using proper test equipment.
* Maintain compliance with workplace safety protocols, including working at heights where applicable.
Essential Requirements:
* Permanent permission to work in Australia.
* Valid Police Check.
* Ability to maintain all statutory and compliance requirements of the role.
* Certificate III in Electronics and Communications or equivalent (Radio Tradesman preferred).
* Open Cabler registration.
* Minimum of 2 years' experience in servicing, repairing, and installing communications equipment.
* Proven experience in system design and architecture using multiple manufacturer's equipment.
* Strong understanding of Internet Protocol (IP) and Local Area Networking (LAN).
* Unrestricted driver's license. Working at Heights & EWP licenses preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
* Basic electrical and electronic skills.
* Working knowledge of engineering tools (coverage prediction, intermodulation calculations, technical drawings) and MS Office.
* Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, and technical problem-solving skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent interpersonal abilities.
* Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively under pressure.
* Attention to detail for system proposals and technical documentation.
* Persuasive, diplomatic, and capable of eliciting cooperation from diverse stakeholders.
* Customer service skills and ability to research, learn, and apply new technologies.
