About the Company
Our State Government client is seeking two Ecologists (1x PO2 and 1x PO3) to assist in the production of threatened species assessments using the Common Assessment Methodology (CAM). This is a casual full-time position (36.25 hours per week) based in their office in Toowong (QLD, 4006).
Role Summary
Your role will involve comprehensively researching and collating available literature and data for priority species to produce threatened species assessments for flora and fauna using the IUCN Red List Criteria. You will respond to feedback from technical committees to ensure accuracy and consistency, peer review nominations for uniform interpretation, foster collaborative relationships with stakeholders, and participate in fieldwork as required.
Skills & Experience
* Relevant tertiary degree (minimum Honours level) in biological sciences, ecology, or environmental management, or an agreed equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution.
* A postgraduate degree in ecology or conservation will be highly regarded.
* Practical experience and understanding of threatened species (preferably flora) ecology, threatening processes and contemporary conservation issues and approaches in the context of Australia (preferably Queensland). Field experience will be highly regarded.
* Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria in the context of the Common Assessment Method, or the ability to rapidly acquire these skills.
* Ecological research, data analysis and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex ecological concepts clearly and concisely in written reports.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently to prioritise work and meet deadlines, while maintaining positive and productive team relations.
* Demonstrated experience liaising with experts regarding species' ecology, threatening processes and conservation approaches in the context of the IUCN Red List Criteria, or the ability to rapidly acquire these skills.
* Experience in coding (R, Python) and GIS will be highly regarded.
* PO3 Position: Demonstrated experience using Geographic Information Systems (such as QGIS) to display, analyse and interpret ecological data in the context of species distribution and threats, or the ability to rapidly acquire these skills.
