Principal Research Officers are responsible for major research and writing tasks for committee inquiries, including the preparation of briefing/background papers and, most importantly, the drafting of reports for consideration by committees. They are expected to take carriage of inquiries, assist with the arrangement of local and interstate hearings and other committee business, support other team members and act as secretary to a committee when required. They may need to work reasonable additional hours during peak work times.
Principal Research Officers must be able to write exceptionally well under pressure, conduct high-level research and manage competing priorities. A good understanding of parliamentary processes and of the role of parliamentary committees would be an advantage.
