About the Opportunity

Join CSIRO's dynamic 'Footprints & Credentials' group, where we're shaping the future of environmental sustainability in agriculture. As part of our 'Sustainability Assessment and Metrics' team, you'll play a key role in advancing low emissions farming systems and supporting projects with key stakeholders.

In this exciting role, you'll work closely with a diverse team of agronomists and researchers, contributing to the delivery of best practice emissions intensity data that helps drive sustainable farming practices. Using your experience in data analysis and coding, you will be working with process-based models and collaborating with state partners in Western Australia, South Australia, and New South Wales, to ensure our research is impactful and results-driven.

Your Key Duties

* Utilising experience and understanding of cropping systems and life cycle GHG accounting to contribute to the design and implementation of systems-based approaches for addressing complex challenges in agricultural or environmental contexts.
* Collecting, managing, and analysing data from a variety of sources, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and usability.
* Creating and maintaining scripts and tools using coding programs such as R to process, analyse, and visualise large and complex datasets for research and decision-making.
* Developing and implementing workflows to manage and integrate complex, and often incomplete, data for use in modelling and analysis.
* Applying novel statistical approaches to develop, code and operationalise data visualisation techniques and products.
* Working in an agile manner to deliver project tasks within multi-disciplinary teams in a timely manner that are fit-for-purpose.

Requirements

* A relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience in farming systems.
* Experience with process-based farming system models, and demonstrated understanding of cropping systems and associated sources of emissions.
* Strong experience in data analysis and using coding programs (such as R or similar), with the ability to process large datasets from a range of sources.
* Proven ability to build workflows to manage complex, often incomplete, data to provide integrated data inputs for a range of uses.
* Ability to develop, code and operationalise data visualisation techniques and products.
* Experience with setting up and running complex APSIM (or other model) simulations and analysing results, requiring negotiation and communication skills.
* Demonstrated understanding of life cycle GHG accounting.
* An understanding of farming systems in the Australian grains industry.
