We are seeking an exceptional Speech Therapist (Speech Pathologist) to join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. Whether you¿re looking for a full-time or part-time position, we can accommodate your preferences.

In this role, you¿ll work alongside our Assistant Principal ¿ Head of Health and Wellbeing, collaborating with our Social Worker and Learning Specialists to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment.

About the Role
As our Speech Therapist, you¿ll:

Work directly with students to assess and support speech, language, and communication development

Provide individual and small-group therapy and design intervention programs

Collaborate with teachers to embed communication strategies into classroom practice

Play a vital role in supporting students with disabilities and neurodivergence

Contribute to Disability Inclusion Profile meetings, writing reports that help secure resources and support

Work closely with families, providing guidance and strategies for home

Liaise with external professionals (psychologists, OTs, paediatricians) to deliver a holistic approach

This is an active, hands-on role where your work will directly shape student outcomes.

Selection Criteria

KSC 1. Relevant tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology, and experience and sound knowledge of speech pathology techniques including assessment and intervention for students with speech, language, communication and literacy needs in a school environment.

KSC 2. Understanding of, and experience working with students aged 5-12 with a variety of presentations or communication needs, including the ability to provide specialist advice on appropriate goals and teaching strategies for students. (specific examples e.g. ID/ASD)?

KSC 3. A knowledge of the use and application of a wide range of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and visual supports and a commitment to supporting their use throughout the school.

KSC 4. High level organisational, written and verbal communication skills, including completion of supporting documentation for Disability Inclusion (DI) Profiles.

KSC 5. Demonstrated ability to design, professional learning, preferably for teachers and other relevant professionals, in the area of language and communication.

Role

Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.

Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

The Speech Pathologist will be responsible for:

Assessment and Funding Applications

Conduct assessments and prepare applications for individual student funding, ensuring accurate and timely submission.

Screening and Assessment

Screen and/or assess students presenting with language, literacy, pragmatic, fluency, and other communication difficulties.

Reporting

Complete diagnostic reports and assessment result documentation in line with school requirements.

Collaboration with Professionals

Liaise with allied health and medical professionals to ensure coordinated support for students.

Feedback and Communication

Provide verbal feedback to parents and both verbal and written assessment feedback to school staff, as appropriate.

Response to Intervention (RTI)

Design and deliver inclusive RTI speech therapy supports and interventions, implemented in collaboration with teachers, ES staff, and relevant professionals.

Understand and evaluate the impact of RTI on whole-school student learning.

Therapy and Intervention

Provide targeted intervention and therapy for individual students and small groups, as required.

Progress Documentation

Maintain accurate written progress notes in accordance with school requirements.

Consultation

Provide ongoing consultation with PSD coordinators, teachers, staff, parents, and other professionals regarding management strategies.

Resource Provision

Develop and share informational guidelines, strategies, and session exercises with staff and parents to support student progress.

Classroom Support

Advise teachers on strategies and modifications to classroom tasks to meet diverse student needs.

Team Meetings

Facilitate and participate in Student Support Group (SSG) meetings, as required.

Professional Standards

Participate in Speech Pathology Australia¿s Self-Regulation Program to maintain skilled standards.

Professional Learning

Regularly update and extend knowledge and skills through professional learning and development.

Other Duties

Undertake additional duties as directed by the Principal.
