About the Opportunity
This opportunity supports the Department of Army within the Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC) — a key capability enabling Army's digital integration across Land, Joint, and Coalition environments.
We are seeking a Lead Battlefield Telecommunications Network Engineer to play a pivotal role in designing, integrating, and supporting deployable mission networks.
This is a hands‐on, high-impact role working at the forefront of Defence capability development.
As a Lead Network Engineer, you will operate as an Advanced Practitioner within the LNIC Validate Team, delivering engineering expertise across complex battlefield communications systems.
You will contribute to design, build, integration, validation, and support activities across mission‐critical environments, ensuring interoperability and operational readiness.
Responsibilities
* Design, build, implement, and support Wide Area Networks (WAN)
* Develop and enhance LAN switching and routing architectures
* Engineer secure and resilient deployable network environments
* Support integration of SATCOM technologies (FDMA / TDMA)
* Configure and manage routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP)
* Support IPv4 / IPv6 networking and interoperability
* Enable voice and video transmission across networks
* Secure Communications & Cryptography
* Develop and administer secure IP-based cryptographic networks
* Support secure communications aligned with Defence standards
* Ensure compliance with security and interoperability requirements
* Configure and test mission network WAN assemblies prior to deployment
* Support systems integration, testing, and evaluation activities
* Contribute to validation of complex systems‐of‐systems environments
* Provide technical training and Level 1/2 support to Army personnel
* Engage with ADF, APS, and Defence contractors
* Provide expert advice across Land, Joint, and Coalition stakeholders
* Program & Capability Contribution
* Contribute to network topology design and integration strategies
* Support coalition interoperability programs
* Lead innovation initiatives exploring emerging technologies
* Support Battle Lab development and LNIC integration activities
* Provide reporting and coordination support to Validate PMO
Qualifications
* Extensive experience in Defence or secure network environments
* Strong expertise in WAN/LAN design, deployment, and troubleshooting
* Hands‐on experience with OSPF, EIGRP, BGP routing protocols
* Proven experience working with SATCOM technologies
* Experience implementing secure / cryptographic network solutions
* Strong understanding of IPv4/IPv6 networking
* Experience working in systems integration and test environments
* Proven ability to engage with Defence stakeholders
* Ability to deliver technical training and guidance
* Experience within Land Combat Systems (LCS) or similar environments
* Exposure to coalition interoperability programs
* Experience in battle labs, experimentation, or test environments
* Familiarity with ITAR requirements
* Experience supporting Defence exercises and deployments
Contract Duration: 20 April 2026 – 30 June 2027 (~279 days)
Security Clearance: NV1 minimum (NV2 eligibility required)
