Position Overview
The HSE Officer is responsible for assisting in the implementation and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental systems and processes across allocated sites, ensuring ongoing compliance with applicable workplace health, safety, environmental and psychosocial legislation, as well as company HSE policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.
This role is assigned to TWO physical sites, one in Dandenong and the other in Mickleham. The role will be based out of Dandenong with regular travel between the two locations as operationally required. The position is an onsite position.
Duties & Tasks
- Support implementation and maintenance of the HSE Management System in line with ISO 45001 and relevant WHS, environmental and psychosocial safety legislation.
- Conduct physical & psychosocial risk assessments, maintain hazard registers, and track action close-out.
- Monitor site compliance and complete inspections, audits and incident investigations, including for psychological injuries or near misses.
- Assist with emergency preparedness, plant and equipment safety, and coordination of environmental and radiation safety monitoring.
- Maintain safety records and reports, ensuring inclusion of psychosocial risks and relevant mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to wellbeing programs and awareness initiatives (e.g. mental health, stress and fatigue management).
- Assist in coordinating inductions, return to work processes, and contractor compliance
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of HSE legislation, compliance codes, safe work practices, including psychosocial safety legislation.
- Understanding of psychosocial hazard management (e.g. stress, fatigue, bullying, workload demands), including early identification, control measures and consultation practices.
- Familiarity with GMP principles with experience in irradiation sterilisation processes (preferred). Pharma, biosecurity packaging processes or similar an advantage.
- Proven experience in incident reporting, risk and safety management within manufacturing or warehousing environments.
- Ability to work within ISO 9001, ISO 13485, EN 1422, ISO 11135-1 and ISO 45003 frameworks.
- Competence in developing, implementing and delivering effective training programs, including those addressing physical safety, psychosocial wellbeing, and environmental compliance.
Qualifications, Education & Training
Essential:
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety / Diploma of Work Health and Safety
- Proven work experience in a HSE role
- Driver’s licence
Preferred:
- Tertiary qualifications in Work Health Safety or related discipline
- First Aid & CPR Certification
- Cert IV in Training & Workplace Assessment
- Work experience in sterilisation, warehousing, medical GMP packing environments, and/or medical devices or general health care manufacturing.
