About the role
Mater Private Hospital Townsville is inviting expressions of interest from experienced internal Registered Nurse/Midwives who are ready to take the next step in their careers by moving into a Midwifery & Nursing Unit Manager role. This position is a maternity leave cover opportunity, with the successful applicant offered a maximum‐term contract commencing 21st September ______ through to June ______. The role offers full‐time hours and will be based in our maternity unit at Pimlico. As the Midwifery Nursing Unit Manager, you will provide operational/clinical management and leadership to this Maternity department and provide a professional line‐management responsibility to nurses/midwives in the organisation. As the leader of this team, you will provide exceptional nursing management and be responsible for the clinical, resource management and education accountabilities of nursing within our Maternity Unit. Additionally, you will ensure the provision of best practice, quality and safety aspects of patient care in a clinically supportive and patient centric environment.
Salary range: $_____ - $_____ per hour plus superannuation and access to not‐for‐profit salary packaging up to $15,900 plus access to many staff benefits!
What you'll be doing
* Provide operational/clinical management and leadership to the Unit in partnership with nursing/midwifery, medical, allied health and administrative teams
* Identify and implement opportunities for clinical service progression with the support and in collaboration with Senior Leadership
* Achieve optimal patient outcomes throughout the patient journey and continuum of care across the broader Mater Mothers Maternity Network
* Maintain and develop current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth
* Develop, improve and monitor systems and processes to ensure service is managed effectively and efficiently
* Lead by example to provide high level clinical care for our patients and guidance to our highly experienced maternity team
* Utilise expert level communication strategies to guide the team in achieving the unit's personal and collective goals
About you
* Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse/Midwife with no restrictions
* Advanced clinical competency and the ability to maintain the highest standards of midwifery practice
* Strong VMO communication skills
* Exceptional interpersonal, communication and time management skills within a multidisciplinary team
* Competence to lead and manage a clinical team to optimise customer and organisational outcomes
* Have an understanding of key financial metrics related to clinical cost centre reporting
* Demonstrated application of the principles of risk management and quality improvement in a clinical environment
* Understanding and application of contemporary human resource management practices
* Strong leadership ability and experience, and the desire to promote the Mater mission and values to all staff
