Primary objective
Lead the operational and compliance functions of the Weed Management Branch in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and
Alice Springs, including managing a team of approximately 12 personnel.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure high quality development and implementation of weed management operations and compliance programs to
ensure that the Weeds Management Act 2001 (the Act) is implemented and regulated in accordance with executive
government direction, legislation and best practice.
1. Manage the implementation of contemporary weed management surveys, education, extension and compliance programs.
2. Lead and coordinate Territory-wide compliance and enforcement activities including investigations, the issue of orders
and directions and the preparation of prosecution briefs, in accordance with the Act.
4. Recruit, develop and manage adequately trained and equipped staff to undertake the required operational and
compliance functions.
5. Contribute to and supervise the program budgets for both NTG and externally funded projects to ensure that
expenditure is monitored and managed within project budgets.
6. Prepare high level correspondence, policies, procedures, briefing papers and formal submissions to assist the Director
Weed Management with their regulatory accountabilities under the Act.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A bachelor's degree relevant to the position (e.g. Science, Law) from a recognised tertiary institution.
2. Demonstrated high level experience in the administration and regulation of legislation and regulatory activity, including
investigations and enforcement of compliance with legislation.
3. Substantial demonstrated ability in the identification of weed species, ecology, distribution, research and integrated
management options preferably across tropical and arid environments.
4. Demonstrated experience in leading and managing human, financial and physical resources to deliver a complex and
dispersed work program.
5. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate and liaise
with a diverse group of stakeholders and provide concise and accurate reports, briefings and executive submissions.
6. Current NT Class C Driver Licence or equivalent and ability to drive a manual vehicle.
Desirable
1. Experience in the field application of GIS (Geographic Information System) and GPS (Global Positioning System) for weed
mapping, planning and navigation.
2. Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
