The Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated individual to be a Building Maintenance Officer and work within our Infrastructure team. Based in Kununurra this position will be responsible for carrying out general maintenance to the Shires owned residential buildings and facilities both in Kununrra and Wyndham. The role will undertake property inspections, preparation of maintenance programs, undertake general building and maintenance tasks, assist with cost estimates and provide guidance and advice to employees and contractors in performing construction and maintenance projects.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
* Undertake scheduled, preventative and ad-hoc tasks in and around the Shire's facilities such as carpentry, fabrication, painting and general handman duties as directed by the Coordinator Assets (Buildings), in an efficient and professional manner;
* Conduct day to day building maintenance activities on Shire owned assets such as residential properties, recreation and sporting facilities, community buildings and public amenities;
* Identify and report all structural and maintenance issues to the Coordinator Assets (Buildings);
* Gardening duties including mowing, fertilising, planting, pruning, edging, reticulation maintenance and weed control;
* Report graffiti to the Coordinator Assets (Building) and ensure rapid removal;
* Deliver and/or remove furniture and equipment to and from Shire owned assets as required;
* Conduct pre-start inspections of plant and equipment daily, and report any faults or defects;
* Maintain a quarterly register of equipment in the allocated service vehicle;
* Utilise a variety of tools and equipment in a safe and competent manner in accordance with manual handling procedures;
* Proactively undertake regular inspections of Shire owned building assets and determine priorities in conjunction with the Coordinator Assets (Buildings);
* Organise and prioritise competing tasks and work both autonomously and as part of a team when required;
* Liaise professionally with internal and external stakeholders, obtain quotes and ensure outcomes are met in a timely manner;
* Takes responsibility to ensure quality of services meet the expectations of the organisation; and
* Undertake any other duties, as reasonably assigned, by the Coordinator Assets (Buildings).
Please note: This position may be required to respond to out of hour emergencies and critical incidents (e.g. weather, fire or man-made events).
To be considered for this role, you will need relevant qualifications in a building trade or have proven experience in building and maintenance practices, a current unrestricted WA drivers licence, and a White Card (WA Construction). In addition to strong communications skills, you will need to have good customer service skills, the ability to work outdoors in East Kimberley conditions, and the ability to safely operate relevant equipment.
