Our core product, the Reconfigurable Driver Simulator (RDS), is a highly dynamic motion platform consisting of a six degree of freedom robotic arm, interchangeable replica vehicle cabins, haptically enabled control devices and immersive simulation environments featuring detailed vehicle dynamics and terrain modelling.UMS has delivered six RDS systems to the Australian Army for use at their driver training facility in Puckapunyal, Victoria. UMS have also secured further contracts to replicate and simulate other Australian Army vehicles, such as the M1 Abrams main battle tank, for driver training purposes.UMS headquarters are based in a unique advanced manufacturing innovation hub on the Deakin University Waurn Ponds Campus, Waurn Ponds, Victoria.About the roleAs a Senior Electronics Engineer, you will report to the Principal Electronics Engineer and be responsible for delivering hardware solutions for simulating military vehicle driver cabin instrumentation, including wiring and cabling. You will lead a team of electronics engineers and technicians, ensuring high-quality hardware design aligned with project requirements.Responsibilities include:Develop system-level schematics documenting the electrical architecture of the RDS.Design and develop reusable electrical architectures for the RDS.Lead schematic design, PCB layout, and fabrication, and integration testing of custom driver instrument panels.Design, simulate, and test electronic hardware including power, serial, Ethernet communication, digital and analog circuits.Ensure designs consider EMI/EMC compliance, including cable and PCB layout best practices.Provide technical support for prototype builds, production testing, and troubleshooting.Participate in on-site customer vehicle surveys for future cabin replication.Collaborate with RF, mechanical, and production engineering teams to meet design objectives.Required SkillsBachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.Demonstrated years of experience in electronics design and development.Proficient in PCB design and layout using Altium.Demonstrated ability to lead projects from concept through to production.Strong knowledge of EMI/EMC design and mitigation strategies.Solid experience in digital and analog circuit design.Familiarity with microcontroller-based systems and safety-critical hardware design.Experience with communication protocols such as I2C, RS-485, TCP/UDP.Why Join UMS?Be part of a pioneering company at the forefront of military driver training technology.Work in a unique advanced manufacturing innovation hub on the Deakin University Waurn Ponds Campus.Collaborate with a talented and dedicated team of professionals.Contribute to the development of new intellectual property, designs, and services.What we Offer:A flexible work environment.Excellent onsite facilities on one of the largest university campuses in Australia.Free onsite parking.A company Employee Assistance Program.If you are passionate about electronics engineering and eager to make a significant impact, we would love to hear from you.
