Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer – HVAC

We’re currently working with a well-established national HVAC contractor that continues to go from strength to strength across the Australian market. With a strong pipeline of secured work and a reputation for delivering complex mechanical projects across sectors such as commercial, healthcare and infrastructure, they’re now looking to bring an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer into their growing team.
This position would suit someone who enjoys being involved in the full lifecycle of mechanical projects – from concept and value engineering through to detailed design and supporting delivery on site.
It’s also a great opportunity for an engineer who’s keen to step into more responsibility. Whether that’s taking ownership of design packages on projects, mentoring junior engineers, or representing the business in client meetings, the role offers plenty of scope to develop your leadership skills.
The Role
Working closely with the Design Manager and project teams, you’ll support the design and coordination of HVAC systems across a range of design & construct projects. You’ll be involved in developing concept designs, producing calculations and technical documentation, coordinating drawings and working with project teams to ensure systems are delivered as intended.
You’ll also be trusted to engage directly with clients and consultants, so being comfortable in a client-facing environment is important. At times you may attend design meetings independently and represent the engineering team within the wider project group.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Supporting the production of mechanical design and contract documentation
* Developing HVAC concept designs and contributing to value engineering
* Preparing engineering calculations including heat load estimates
* Coordinating design deliverables including layouts, schematics and reports
* Working closely with drafting teams to produce buildable workshop drawings
* Selecting and scheduling HVAC equipment
* Attending design and services coordination meetings with clients and consultants
* Supporting project teams during installation and commissioning phases
* Mentoring graduate and junior engineers where required
What We’re Looking For
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
* Around 5+ years’ experience in HVAC mechanical design
* Experience across commercial building projects (healthcare and industrial exposure would also be beneficial)
* Strong technical understanding of HVAC systems and equipment selection
* Comfortable working with contractors, consultants and clients
* Someone keen to continue developing their career and take on more responsibility
