These positions sit within the Building and Energy Division, a team dedicated to protecting the Western Australian community through strong technical oversight and effective regulation. The Division oversees the electrical, gas, plumbing, painting and building services industries by setting and monitoring safety standards, inspecting and auditing installations and systems, investigating complaints and serious incidents, and ensuring licensed professionals and businesses meet their obligations. Your work here directly strengthens community confidence, safety and industry performance across the State.
The role
Are you looking for a role where your technical expertise genuinely matters — a role where your skills protect lives and shape the future of electrical safety in Western Australia? As a Senior Electrical Inspector, you won't just be checking compliance; you'll be leading critical investigations, influencing industry standards, and driving safer outcomes for every household, business and community across our State. If you want meaningful work that blends technical challenge, public impact and true professional respect, this is your opportunity to work for a respected regulator and make a difference.
As Senior Electrical Inspector, you will form part of a skilled and committed team responsible for undertaking complex and sensitive regulatory, technical, and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with electrical safety legislation across Western Australia. Drawing on your extensive experience in electrical work, supervision, and inspection, you will play a vital role in promoting and enforcing electrical safety standards that protect workers, the public, and infrastructure.
The role may involve auditing network operators' inspection systems and electricity supply networks, reviewing work practices, and identifying and investigating systemic issues that impact safety or performance. You will also contribute to the development of legislative and procedural reforms.
In addition, you will contribute to developing the capability of the inspection team by mentoring and coaching other Inspectors. You will provide expert technical and regulatory advice to leaders, external investigators and, where required, affected families. You will also prepare detailed reports to support enforcement actions, which may include representing the department in court or before disciplinary bodies.
The position includes regulatory oversight of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) installations under both state and Commonwealth programs, ensuring compliance with relevant Australian Standards, investigating incidents, and monitoring licensed contractor practices.
Based in Cannington, the role requires travel throughout metropolitan, regional, and remote Western Australia to undertake inspections, investigations, audits, and education activities across sectors including electrical contracting, vegetation management, and renewable energy.
To be successful, you must hold a current unrestricted Electrician's Licence.
