Health & Safety Specialist
The role of Health and Safety Specialist involves working on the design and build of a new substation in Suffolk. The project will support Scottish Power's East Anglia windfarm in the Southern North Sea, contributing to Britain's transition to renewable energy and Net Zero.
As a key member of the project team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve health and safety standards across the project. This includes carrying out earth moving operations on the greenfield site, constructing new roads and road junctions, reinforced concrete works, and steel framed superstructures.
Design and environmental consent works are already underway, with construction commencing in spring next year and a planned handover and energisation to grid in December.
As Health and Safety Specialist, you will be expected to be present on site most days, although some flexibility in working patterns can be agreed. Tier 1 Contracting experience in a regulatory environment is highly desirable.
Duties include:
* Initiating and maintaining positive measures to raise standards, ensuring compliance with OHSAS obligations, health & safety legislation, and all minimum health & safety standards (MSS).
* Supporting the monitoring of sites through the audit process, in a proactive manner to address any issues.
* Establishing a system to ensure that all personnel on site have received a site induction briefing before going on site.
* Ensuring the induction is regularly updated to reflect current site hazards/conditions.
* Ensuring effective investigations take place to prevent accidents & incidents, whilst ensuring effective learning from all events are presented to the head of HSEQ for wider business distribution.
* Preparing and updating the construction phase health & safety plan before works start.
* Introducing initiatives to improve standards and ensure safe working, whilst focusing on the proactive side of health & safety management.
* Identifying, promoting, and implementing health & safety best practice.
* Participating in supporting the business with regards to tenders and pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQ's) and tender submissions, as designated by Senior Safety Manager/Preconstruction Team.
Key qualifications and skills required:
* Previous experience as a Health and Safety Manager working on a major infrastructure project.
* Degree or equivalent in a construction-related subject.
* NEBOSH and/or IOSH certification.
