Austal Australia is a global shipbuilder, defence prime contractor and maritime technology partner of choice, designing, constructing, and supporting defence and commercial vessels for the world’s leading operators. The company operates in Australia, the USA, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

Austal Australia is delivering multiple naval shipbuilding and sustainment programs for the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Border Force, and the Department of Defence, employing approximately 1,000 people in facilities located in Western Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory.

Austal and the Commonwealth of Australia have just sealed a landmark Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) that’s set to transform Australia’s naval defence and create a shipbuilding powerhouse in Henderson, Western Australia. This is a long-term partnership that will accelerate the delivery of cutting-edge vessels for the Australian Defence Force over the next decade. We are assembling a highly skilled team to take on complex, large-scale projects that showcase Austal’s proven expertise.

As a key member of our Human Resources (HR) team, you’ll be at the heart of it. You’ll provide top-tier HR/IR advice that drives business success and helps us build the team of the future. You’ll collaborate across the HR team to deliver seamless service, partner with Learning & Organisational Development to embed our culture, and help shape an organization that’s ready for anything. What’s Involved

- Stakeholder Management: You’ll be the primary point of contact for managers and employees, building strong relationships and providing trusted advice on all HR matters.
- Tailored Solutions: You’ll proactively collaborate with managers to address people issues, offering bespoke solutions and case management support for grievances, disciplinary issues, and complex investigations.
- Strategic Collaboration: You’ll work with managers and external partners to implement key HR strategies and cyclical activities, including performance reviews, succession planning, and workforce planning.
- Operational Support: You’ll support the implementation of various HR programs, such as reward and recognition, employee development initiatives, and enterprise agreements.
- Policy and Compliance: You’ll advise on the interpretation of relevant Acts, Regulations, and internal policies, ensuring compliance and fairness in all people-related decisions.

You’ll Need

You have a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field with at least five years of experience in a similar role. You possess extensive knowledge of employment and industrial relations law, along with experience developing and implementing HR-related policies and procedures. You also have strong coaching, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and are highly experienced at conducting workplace investigations and resolving complex issues. You have strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, and influencing abilities, including high-level technical writing skills. You are experienced in implementing HR/IR strategies, programs, and policies, as well as delivering presentations and training to both management and staff.
