Overview
We're looking for an experienced WHS practitioner to lead our strategic priority to promote safe workplaces for our nearly 4,000 membership of nurses, midwives and assistants-in-nursing working in public and private hospitals, aged care, and primary health care settings in the ACT.
The person we're after will have experience working with WHS legislation, policy, and standards to drive workplace safety initiatives in complex environments. The ability to undertake audits and incident investigations and prepare written reports is essential.
Excellent communication and influencing skills are required to articulate the Branch's position on issues and achieve positive change through WHS compliance related activities, conflict resolution, and education. Strong problem solving and analytical skills are essential.
About the Role
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
* Drive a culture of safety first and compliance with WHS legislation, standards and policies.
* Undertake WHS education including Workplace Delegates, HSRs and Branch staff
* Undertake workplace inspections, investigations and reporting
* Develop and implement policies, procedures, and strategies to mitigate workplace risks
* Play a lead role in incident investigations and audits that support safe workplaces
* Represent the Branch at committees, inquiries and other forums
Skills and experience
Essential
* Experience in WHS
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Policy development and research and analytical skills
* Demonstrated skills and experience in dispute/issue resolution
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate to embed health and safety initiatives
Desirable
* Tertiary qualification/s in a work health and safety discipline or working towards or relevant experience
* Union experience or knowledge and a knowledge of the health and aged care sector.

Work Level & Salary Range
Salary is negotiable depending on the level of experience and expertise the person brings to the job.
Conditions of Employment
* 17.5% annual leave loading and 14% employer superannuation
* Up to 12 ADOs annually
* 4 weeks annual leave + 5 days paid Christmas leave
