You could be part of a dynamic, fast paced team that is helping to bring engineering solutions to Antarctica.

Who we are The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
As the primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.
These goals include the administration of the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.

The Assets and Technology (A&T) Branch provides and maintains the equipment and infrastructure to support the AAP.
The Branch activities range from maintaining existing Antarctic stations and equipment to designing, manufacturing, testing, operating, and procuring advanced scientific equipment and systems.
It also manages major infrastructure projects supporting AAP outcomes.

Within the A&T Branch, the Infrastructure Strategy and Planning (ISP) Section acts as the asset owner for the AAD's research station infrastructure.
It provides engineering and asset management expertise, develops maintenance planning, drawing management, and inventory systems to support station maintenance, operation, and construction.
The section also oversees 3-year and 10-year infrastructure planning and coordinates station master planning.

The job The position will provide electrical engineering expertise, project delivery capability, and maintenance management to support both existing and new research station electrical systems and infrastructure.
The role covers a broad range of electrical system engineering aspects, including managing independent energy systems at three permanently occupied stations in Antarctica and another on sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island.
Each station has a main powerhouse and an emergency powerhouse with electrical and thermal co-generation using Special Antarctic Blend (SAB) diesel.
Mawson features a 300kW wind turbine, Casey has a 30kW solar array, and Davis and Casey have high-voltage distribution systems.
The stations also utilize building monitoring and control systems (BMCS).

What we are looking for We seek candidates who can demonstrate the following:

Strong electrical engineering knowledge and experience, particularly in remote and harsh environments. Ability to manage complex projects and maintenance operations. Capability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness and ability to travel to Antarctic and sub-Antarctic regions, meeting specific medical, adaptability, and personal qualities requirements. Desirable qualifications Further qualifications and experience that would be advantageous include expertise in renewable energy systems, experience working in polar or remote environments, and familiarity with building management systems.
