We’re looking for a skilled Mainframe Engineer to join our dynamic team in Gold Coast or Sydney and contribute to one of Australia’s largest transformation programs. This is a unique opportunity to work on high-impact projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams and help shape the future of enterprise systems. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain mainframe applications to ensure system stability and performance. Integrate mainframe systems with other platforms and on-premises technologies to modernise and enhance scalability. Implement and manage database design, migration, and tuning to optimise data management and performance. Apply expert systems knowledge to ensure high-quality solutions are delivered to the business. Consult with the wider IT community to provide technical/domain advice and support application systems and development. Contribute to cost estimates during design and development phases in collaboration with architects, BAs, PMs, SMEs, and solution providers. Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders in a complex project environment. Ensure adherence to Westpac’s standards and processes to meet regulatory obligations. What do I need? Degree in Computer Science or a related field with a focus on Software Engineering. Strong experience in mainframe technologies such as IMS, COBOL (including Cap COBOL), PL/I, DB2, ASM, JCL, CICS, VSAM. Proficiency in SQL, stored procedures, database design, migration and tuning. Experience with Oracle, SYNCSORT and FILEAID. Knowledge of mainframe modernisation, including integration with other platforms and on-premises technologies. Why join us?
