Not-for-Profit Organisation Exciting opportunity is available within a highly respected not‑for‑profit organisation seeking skilled and passionate Aboriginal Mental Health Community Support Workers to join their Service Delivery team, committed to transforming lives through our services, embracing challenges with creativity and adaptability for lasting positive impact. About the Role We are seeking an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peer Worker to join our Community Living Supports Program (CLS). In this role, you will provide culturally safe, lived experience-informed support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people living with mental health challenges. Grounded in connection to culture, community, and Country, you will support healing, empowerment, and resilience. You will use your lived experience and cultural knowledge to walk alongside people in their recovery journey—building trust, strengthening identity, and supporting connection to community supports and services. Key Details Multiple roles FT & PPT Identified Roles Tweed Heads SCHADS award level 3 Responsibilities Culturally Safe Peer Support Deliver culturally safe, recovery-oriented peer support aligned with the CLS model Use lived experience to support healing, wellbeing, and resilience Assist with daily living, emotional regulation, and social connection Support clients with daily living skills, emotional wellbeing, and social connection Maintain an active caseload and meet support delivery targets Support connection to Country, culture, and community Community & Cultural Engagement Build relationships with Aboriginal Medical Services, Elders, and community organisations Connect customers to culturally appropriate supports Advocate for culturally safe service delivery Support customer feedback and co-design opportunities Collaboration & Practice Development Participate in cultural supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing learning Work collaboratively with Aboriginal Peer Workers and multidisciplinary teams Contribute to co-design and continuous improvement of culturally responsive services Engage in reflective practice and regular supervision to support safe and effective peer work. Compliance & Safety Follow all policies, WHS, and risk management procedures Report incidents and maintain accurate documentation About You You are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with lived experience, passionate about supporting others in your community. You bring strong cultural knowledge, empathy, and resilience, and understand the importance of connection to culture, identity, and community in healing. You Will Bring: Lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person A strong understanding of mental health within Indigenous contexts Knowledge of cultural protocols, community structures, and culturally safe practice Ability to build trust and form meaningful connections within community Confidence using your lived experience to support others while maintaining boundaries Strong communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills A commitment to culturally safe, person-centred, recovery-oriented support Essential Requirements Certificate IV in Mental Health or Peer Work or relevant industry experience Minimum 12 months experience in a CLS program or similar program Strong understanding of recovery-oriented, person-centred practice Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to manage complex needs and behaviours with confidence and care Knowledge of trauma-informed care and cultural competency Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability Confidence using Microsoft Office and reporting systems Eligibility NSW Driver’s Licence Working with Children Check National Police Check (within 3 months) NDIS Worker Screening Check and Orientation Module Physical capability to meet the requirements of the role, including lifting up to 10kg.
