About the role
We're looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead the end‐to‐end payroll function across JPL Group. Managing a team of six, you'll oversee fortnightly payroll for 4,*****,000 retail team members and a monthly Head Office payroll, ensuring compliance with awards, agreements, and legislation. This is a hands‐on leadership role where you'll drive process improvements, lead payroll projects, and play a key role in enterprise agreement negotiations.
What you will do
* Manage end‐to‐end payroll processing for 4,*****,000 team members using Dayforce and Chris21, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
* Ensure timely and accurate submissions to the ATO, including Single Touch Payroll (STP) and other statutory reporting.
* Oversee superannuation, leave, termination payments, workers' compensation, and employment‐related tax obligations.
* Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and bank, and provide accurate reporting and payroll analysis to key stakeholders.
* Lead, coach, and support a team of six payroll professionals, driving performance and continuous development.
* Maintain and improve payroll systems, processes, and controls to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
* Collaborate with HR, IT, and Finance to deliver process improvements and system upgrades.
* Provide timely support for employee payroll queries, ensuring a high standard of customer service.
What skills and experience do you need?
* Minimum 3 years' experience managing a payroll team in a high‐volume environment, ideally within retail or multi‐site operations.
* Strong understanding of employment legislation, Awards, and Enterprise Agreements.
* Proven leadership skills with experience in coaching and developing payroll teams.
* Experience working with payroll and time & attendance systems, preferably Dayforce and Chris21.
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel for payroll reporting and analysis.
* Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail under tight deadlines.
* Excellent organisational and problem‐solving skills with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in payroll, finance, human resources, or a related discipline are highly desirable.
