Job Title: High Risk Team (HRT) Cultural Advisor Identified

Are you a passionate individual seeking an opportunity to create meaningful change in your community? Mackay Women's Services is seeking a dedicated Cultural Advisor to join our High Risk Team. This identified role is central to strengthening cultural safety, fostering understanding, and supporting the unique needs of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and Australian South Sea Islander people and communities.

Role Details

Role Overview: HRT Cultural Advisor provides information and cultural guidance in relation to Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander people to increase cultural capability, including culturally significant events and their meaning, provides information and referrals, engages in community development, maintains partnerships, supports HRT meetings, ensures data entry, and assists in policy development. They contribute to long-term planning for HRT within Mackay Women’s Services, handle clerical tasks, and offer secretariat support for HRT meetings.

This is a part-time role (minimum two days per week), with the possibility of full-time for the right candidate.

What You'll Do

- Participate in HRT meetings to represent the voice of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander women and children and provide cultural guidance.
- Engage effectively with women and service providers (including government and non-government agencies) to support establishing and strengthening safety and support networks, including connection to extended family, community, country, and culture.
- Provide high quality cultural advice and direction to inform decisions about the safety needs of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team efforts to deliver culturally appropriate support services to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.
- Strengthen workforce cultural capability through sharing cultural advice, knowledge of communities, and awareness of culturally significant processes and events.
- Utilize the Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Common Risk and Safety Framework (CRASF).
- Report risk management issues to the HRT Coordinator (or Practice Manager in their absence).
- Liaise with other workers to ensure access, eligibility and support of clients, including men requiring brokerage funds for emergent accommodation, as per Departmental specifications.
- Build positive relationships with key stakeholders such as the police, child protection services, Centrelink, local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services, and other welfare agencies to respond effectively to domestic and family violence.
- Participate in relevant networks and forums related to domestic and family violence and service provision where possible.
- Undertake administrative duties for the HRT, including data collection and input to the shared ICT platform as required.
- Prepare for and participate in program meetings, case conferencing, reflective practice, peer support and information sharing.
- Provide information to leadership on trends, needs and matters relevant to service delivery to clients.
- Maintain client records in line with DVRS requirements, funding body standards and privacy legislation; record case notes accurately and report on high-risk PUVs (Persons Using Violence).
- Contribute to accurate program data collection and assist in monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.

Qualifications / Experience

- Degree qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences or related discipline, and registration/membership (or eligibility) with appropriate qualified body; or Diploma of Counselling with registration/membership (or eligibility) with ACA.
- Applied knowledge of relevant legislation, specifically Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012.
- Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and/or Australian South Sea Islander background with substantial experience working with these communities.
- Understanding of diverse Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and/or Australian South Sea Islander cultures and practices.
- Significant experience working with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and/or Australian South Sea Islander women and children.
- Experience building relationships with community and government agencies and other stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including report writing, and ability to work as part of a supportive team.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office 365 skills.
- Current Driver’s Licence; Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or ability to obtain; National Police Certificate or ability to obtain.

Qualifications / Knowledge

- Knowledge of the complexities and legal/social welfare aspects of Domestic and Family Violence.
- Knowledge of Dynamics 365.
