Coolabah Capital Investments is a global fixed-income investor managing circa US$10billion for institutional and retail clients. The firm focuses on generating alpha from long and short security‐specific positions through highly quantitative proprietary models. The team includes a total of 58 talented, full‐time staff located in our offices in London, Miami, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Derivatives Operations Analyst (SME) to support and enhance our derivatives operations capability across listed and OTC products. The Derivatives Operations Analyst (SME) will serve as the subject matter expert across the post‐trade lifecycle for derivatives products. The role is responsible for trade support, lifecycle event processing, reconciliations, controls, issue resolution, and process improvement across internal teams and external counterparties, brokers, custodians, administrators, and clearing houses. This role suits a strong operations professional with deep derivatives product and process knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage operational risk in a fast‐paced environment. Will be working with stakeholders across Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Technology to ensure processing accuracy and compliance. This is a key role for someone with strong analytical capability, derivatives knowledge, and the ability to translate complex requirements into practical operational outcomes. Reporting to the Global Middle Office lead (Sydney based) the role will also span other major areas of middle office operations along with project work, such as onboarding clients and new account setups.

Responsibilities

* Act as the SME for derivatives operations processes across the trade lifecycle, from trade capture through settlement, expiry, and reporting.
* Support operational processing for listed and OTC derivatives, including futures, options, swaps, forwards, and other structured or bilateral products as relevant.
* Ensure accurate and timely confirmation, affirmation, settlement, collateral, corporate action, cash flow, and lifecycle event processing.
* Monitor daily operational workflows and control reports to ensure trades and events are captured and processed correctly.
* Perform reconciliations across front office systems, counterparties, custodians, clearing brokers, fund administrators, and internal books and records.
* Investigate and resolve breaks, exceptions, failed settlements, valuation discrepancies, and trade booking issues.
* Liaise with Portfolio Managers, Traders, Risk, Finance, Compliance, Technology, Fund Administrators, Prime Brokers, and counterparties on operational matters.
* Oversee or support margining and collateral movements, including variation margin, initial margin, and related disputes where applicable.
* Ensure operational procedures are aligned with internal controls, service level expectations, and regulatory or internal policy requirements.
* Maintain process documentation, operating procedures, and control evidence for audit and governance purposes.
* Support new product onboarding, system changes, process redesign, and operational readiness for new strategies or counterparties.
* Identify and implement opportunities for automation, process improvement, and control enhancement.
* Experience supporting OTC derivatives, ISDA / CSA operational workflows, and complex lifecycle events.
* Provide SME guidance and mentorship to junior analysts and broader stakeholders on derivatives operations matters.

Qualifications

To be successful in your application you ideally will need to have previous derivatives product and operational processing experience in funds or capital markets operations, or within a middle office role at an investment bank. Strong understanding and experience in derivative post‐trade workflows across listed and/or OTC markets in support of fixed income derivatives operations. Proficiency with Bloomberg terminal and related tools (AIM and CASH required). More importantly is the motivation and enthusiasm to excel and carve out a career in investment management. You will have a sound understanding of the financial markets and thrive in a high-intensity work environment where the whole team shares the same intense work ethic and passion to excel. We are a highly quantitative team, so advanced excel is mandatory, and vba coding is highly desirable.

Location

The successful candidate will be based in the City of Sydney and would be expected to be in the office 5 days a week.

Pay range and compensation package

It is expected a market‐competitive contract will be agreed with the opportunity to participate in the bonus pool. The work will be demanding but also highly rewarding with the right candidate able to assume significant responsibilities and drive operational processes.
