Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental health challenges, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

About the Role:

The Regional Coordinator - Broome with Carers WA is a full-time, fixed-term contract ending June 2026. The position attracts a salary package of $88,000 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (including 17.5% leave loading on annual leave) and two wellness days per annum. T

The Regional Coordinator – Broome Region is a pivotal role within Carers WA, aimed at empowering carers in regional Western Australia by facilitating access to information, building capacity, strengthening support networks, and fostering resilience.

This position works collaboratively with the Carer Gateway Program, assisting with emergency respite referrals, managing caseloads, conducting Carer Star assessments, and supporting the arrangement of service coordination, Carer Coaching, and In-Person Peer Support. The role also involves promoting Carers WA programs, while raising awareness of the Carers Recognition Act and the Carers Charter.

The Regional Coordinator will play a significant role in educating carers, service providers, and community organisations (e.g., local councils and schools) on the vital contributions of unpaid carers and the resources available to support them. Additionally, the role will support Carers WA’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible workplace.

Carers WA promotes a workplace free of physical and psychological harm, however, acknowledges that some roles and inherent actions of our business mean there may be exposure to traumatic narratives. Typical stressors associated with this role may include remote or isolated work due to the outreach component of the role, handling difficult conversations such as conversations around suicidal ideation, and exposure to traumatic narratives. In these instances, and where possible, Carers WA will mitigate the impact of this exposure.

Essential Selection Criteria:

1. Qualification relevant to the role or at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the not-for-profit sector.
2. Experience working with carers, people who are aged, have a disability, mental health issues and/or chronic illness.
3. High level communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
4. Proven ability to encourage and build team spirit amongst staff, bring about mutual respect and cooperation.
5. Proficiency using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, and/or customised client databases, as well as virtual communication modes (phone, skype, Zoom).
6. Current C class drivers licence (required for outreach component of the role).
7. National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
