About the School
Melton Specialist School provides educational programmes for students with disabilities at both primary and secondary levels in a positive, caring and safe environment. The school is a dual‑mode setting catering for students with mild through to severe intellectual disabilities and other associated conditions such as Autism. Facilities include traditional classrooms, specialist and vocational teaching rooms, therapy spaces, and indoor sensory areas. The school also offers a range of extracurricular activities, including an inclusive sports and creative arts curriculum.
Role
Inclusion Outreach Coaches are based in specialist schools and partner with mainstream schools for defined periods, providing coaching support to school leadership and staff to strengthen inclusive practices. Coaches partner with schools to increase capability to implement preventative, evidence‑based strategies that benefit all students, using data to identify goals, plan for improvement and sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate high‑level expertise in inclusive teaching and learning, modelling exemplary practice and values.
- Deliver explicit technical advice and coaching support on best practice for educators to engage students inclusively.
- Support school‑based leadership to use whole‑school data and establish processes for embedding inclusive adjustments.
- Implement professional learning, coaching, and support schools to design, implement and monitor interventions within a multi‑tiered system of supports.
- Modelling effective inclusive education and supporting teachers to analyse and act on feedback.
- Provide leadership and professional learning to ensure quality inclusive practices across schools.
- Maintain professional competence and attend ongoing professional learning and coaching activities throughout the year.
- Maintain active involvement in Inclusion Outreach Coaching Communities of Practice.
- Collect and analyse data to monitor and report measurable impact, liaising with the Regional Inclusion Outreach Coordinator.
Additional Area Responsibilities
- Use rigorous problem‑solving procedures to identify and respond to school and staff needs and coach others to do so.
- Deliver both inclusion in‑reach and outreach models of support across a range of school settings.
- Collect, analyse and use data effectively to report impact of implemented practices.
- Partner and collaborate with other coaches and workforces within Health, Wellbeing, Inclusion and School Improvement teams.
- Maintain connectedness and capability support within the hiring specialist school (equivalent to one day per week), including coaching educators and attending specialist school meetings.
Who May Apply
Required
- Current holder of registration or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach in the specified curriculum area(s).
- License to operate a vehicle and access to private transport with approved insurance.
- Successful criminal record check.
Desirable
- Graduate or postgraduate qualification in special/inclusive education or disability.
- Experience across various school settings.
- Demonstrated experience in inclusive education and working with students with diverse learning needs.
Other Relevant Information
Travel may be required. Current Working with Children Check and driver’s licence are mandatory.

Qualification Requirements
- Provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
- For graduates of a postgraduate level initial teaching program after 1 January 2024, a recognised accreditation is required.
- Graduates from a Victorian ITE program after 1 July 2016 must have passed the literacy and numeracy test (LANTITE).
