Institute for Molecular Bioscience Full-time (100%), permanent position Base salary will be in the range $66,262.71 - $72,935.83 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 3) Based at our St Lucia Campus About This Opportunity The General Technical Assistant provides essential building and infrastructure support to various work groups within the Queensland Bioscience Precinct (QBP). Collaborating closely with multiple professional services teams, it ensures the seamless delivery of core services to clients while also offering coverage during staff absences across the broader infrastructure team. Key responsibilities will include: QBP General Assist with preparing and arranging rooms for seminars, functions, and meetings such as relocating and moving furniture and other required items. Monthly testing and record keeping of safety showers and eye wash stations for QBP. Assist with ad-hoc laboratory and general equipment relocations. Undertake cleaning of shared facilities and equipment. Monitoring and record keeping for pest activity to support OGTR and Biosecurity requirements. Collection of waste cardboard from laboratories. QBP Store Assist with moving Liquid Nitrogen pressurised liquid container’s (PLCs) to and from labs for refilling. Receive and manually handle Dry Ice shipments on arrival. Prompt unloading and delivery of items from store to labs/offices. Undertake routine stores duties as required to cover planned and unplanned staff absences such as receive incoming goods, process external and stock Purchase Orders, markup stock, restock shelves, pick store orders and serve internal customers. Central Sterilizing Facility Undertake rostered duties in the central sterilizing facility as required to cover planned and unplanned staff absences such as path waste collection, collection and delivery of items to be sterilized, and soap and paper towel dispenser replenishment in labs and kitchens, resorting of processed/sterilised autoclave waste runs, collection/resorting/delivery of lab coats, lining of 240lt path waste bins. Capable of performing manual handling tasks safely and effectively. Responsible, methodical and able to follow standard protocols and procedures with attention to detail. Cooperative and able to work effectively in a team environment. Capacity to communicate effectively and relate well to others. Experience working in a research environment including sterilisation facilities, biological laboratories, animal houses and pathological or PC2 waste would be highly regarded.
