Position overview
University House offers commercial hotel and ANU graduate student accommodation, and 15 diverse events spaces and hospitality venues. University House is reopening in mid-2026, after 6.5 years closure due to the 2020 Canberra hailstorm, and a complete refurbishment to restore and upgrade its rooms and facilities. The reopening, in conjunction with the University's 80th anniversary, offers an exciting opportunity to re-establish and grow the reputation and business of University House, and its contributions to the University.
The Head Chef supports the Executive Chef in leading day to day kitchen operations across a high-volume commercial environment. This role ensures consistent culinary quality, food safety compliance, efficient workflow, and team development while contributing to menu execution and an excellent guest experience. This is a hands‐on leadership role combining culinary expertise with operational management.
The applicant must possess a proven leadership experience in a senior kitchen role. Strong culinary, organisational and people management skills. Sound understanding of food safety compliance and cost control. A professional, positive, and customer-focussed approach to the role.
As a member of a busy department, you will have excellent communication skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, high attention to detail and strong understanding and application of HACCP and Workplace Health and Safety
