Transitional Support Worker - Youth Initiative
The Youth Initiative (YI) is an initiative that aims to prevent homelessness among young people leaving care by building their capacity, skills and capability. The primary purpose of this position is to work alongside young people transitioning out of Out of Home Care (OOHC) services to support and mentor them to develop networks and skills for independence and successful community living.
About the role
We are currently seeking applications for a Transitional Support Worker to assist the young person to gradually develop the skills, knowledge and strategies to manage their own ongoing accommodation needs.
This role will be based at our Tamworth location in NSW and is offered on a full-time fixed term contract basis.
The Transitional Support Worker will focus on the young person's capacity to establish, manage and maintain long term accommodation, with a particular emphasis on building capacity to establish and maintain share accommodation.
About you
You will be an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual with a heart for working alongside young people to assist them to develop the necessary living skills to source, secure, manage and maintain a home.
Have demonstrated experience in developing and building positive rapport with a range of stakeholders, including community members, young people, carers and fellow colleagues.
Have experience with Social housing including Youth Programs such as Rent Choice Youth.
Have knowledge and application of shared living skills related to supporting young people entering shared accommodation.
Have knowledge of referral processes and resources available to support young people transitioning to accommodation options including open‐market rentals and sustaining tenancy and/or lease agreements.
Have experience working with young people and/or complexity and/or a knowledge of the impact of trauma and attachment on development and learning/employee behaviour, budgeting and shared living‐related financial contribution and independence.
You will ensure young people maintain accommodation on an ongoing basis and retain the ability to remain in suitable accommodation settings on an ongoing basis and are not placed at risk of homelessness.
You will work alongside the young person and demonstrate flexibility by establishing trusting relationships in your approach with co‐tenants, landlords and related accommodation stakeholders; with a clear goal of achieving planned and solution focused outcomes.
You will always demonstrate cultural competence in your approach and interactions and will adhere to Foundations Care Ltd core practice and policy frameworks, engaging in self‐learning or training opportunities to further your knowledge and skills.
Training/Qualifications
Minimum Certificate IV in Social Housing and/or related fields of Community Services or related extensive experience with Social/Community housing.
