About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to help deliver a range of services to a diverse client portfolio, including sole traders, companies, trusts, and SMSFs. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, demonstrates initiative, and has a genuine "can-do" attitude.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for individuals, sole traders, and partnerships accurately and in compliance with ATO requirements.
* Review client-provided documentation and ensure completeness before processing.
* Communicate with clients to gather additional information or clarify discrepancies.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Australian tax legislation and relevant compliance requirements.
* Collaborate with senior accountants to resolve complex taxation matters.
* Prepare ATO statements, including TPAR, FBT, IAS, GST, FTC, PAYG I & PAYG W and STP, for individuals, sole traders, and partnerships.
* Conduct and oversee bookkeeping for a range of small business clients (prepare, review, and finalise BAS, IAS, and payroll).
* Assist senior accountants with the preparation of company, trust, and SMSF tax returns and financial statements.
* Provide client account management and support.
* Train and support clients and staff in using Xero and other accounting software.
* Attend and host client meetings (in-office or online).
* Assist with preparing management reports, grant acquittals, budgets, and cash flows.
* Liaise with auditors, external advisors, and funding bodies as required.
* Monitor and help clients stay compliant with ATO obligations.
* Contribute to improving internal systems, processes, and software rollouts.
Skills & Qualifications
* Bachelor of Business (Accounting) or similar
* Experience in a similar accounting or business services role.
* Proficiency in Xero (experience with MYOB and QuickBooks highly regarded).
* Experience preparing tax returns for individuals.
* Excellent communication, collaboration, and time management skills.
* Ability to work independently, with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
* Positive, proactive "can-do" attitude and willingness to take initiative.
