Transport Manager — May Brothers Contracting Mid Canterbury
May Brothers Contracting is a progressive Agricultural Contracting and Farming business based in Mid Canterbury. We operate across a diverse range of services including cultivation and drilling, silage and baling, grain harvesting, windrowing, and potato planting and harvesting.
This variety offers a dynamic and rewarding environment for the right applicant. We run a large modern fleet including John Deere tractors, combines and choppers, JCB loaders, MacDon windrowers, Krone and McHale balers, alongside a transport fleet consisting primarily of Mercedes and Volvo truck and trailer units. We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager who can lead from the front and oversee the planning and execution of our transport operations.
You will be a forward thinker open to new ideas, capable of strategic planning, and committed to continuous improvement. Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate and manage a team in a fast-paced seasonal environment are essential. The successful applicant must also be willing to step in behind the wheel when required.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise and manage day-to-day transport operations ensuring work is completed to company standards
* Operator training and maintaining job quality
* Liaising with clients, subcontractors, and the service team
* Planning and coordinating transport jobs and logistics
* Managing operators and supporting team performance
* Ensuring on-time deliveries, pickups, and accurate job records
* Uploading completed jobs through our apps to Xero
* Handling operational issues and troubleshooting disruptions
* Health & Safety management and reporting to HR
* Monitoring KPIs, productivity, and operational reporting
* Promoting compliance with regulatory and safety requirements
Requirements
* Previous experience in transport, logistics, or agricultural contracting operations
* Minimum 3 years relevant management or supervisory experience
* Strong leadership and decision-making skills
* Class 5 licence with NZ driving experience preferred
* Excellent communication and problem-solving ability
* Strong organisational, record-keeping, and time management skills
* Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team
* Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasonal periods
