VeiraMal Consulting is seeking an experienced Hotel or Motel Receptionist to join our clients' business in Cooktown. Our client is looking for an enthusiastic individual who can work well in a team, with strong communication skills.
Objective of the Position
* To provide exceptional guest service by greeting and assisting visitors, managing reservations and check-ins, and delivering accurate information about accommodation services.
* To support smooth front desk operations, handle enquiries efficiently, and ensure a positive and welcoming experience for all guests at Cooktown Holiday Park & Motel Accommodation.
Qualifications / Experience
* Certificate III in Hospitality, Tourism, Customer Service, or equivalent experience preferred.
* Prior experience in a hospitality front desk, hotel reception, or customer service role is advantageous.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
* Competency with booking systems, telephone switchboards, email, and general office software.
Responsible For
Delivering professional reception service to guests and visitors, managing accommodation enquiries and reservations, and performing clerical duties that support front office and guest services.
Accountable To
Front Office Manager / Motel Manager
Performance Appraisal
Three months after appointment, then at least annually and/or as required.
Job Description — Key Duties
* Warmly greet guests and visitors on arrival, make them feel welcomed, and assist them with initial enquiries or directions within the property.
* Share up-to-date details about room types, rates, facilities, local attractions, and available services to help guests make informed decisions.
* Take and record new accommodation bookings via phone, email, web, or in person, and update the property management system accurately.
* Facilitate guest arrivals and departures efficiently, including issuing room keys, processing payments, and explaining motel policies.
* Answer incoming calls promptly, direct enquiries to the correct team member or department, and provide accurate information or assistance as needed.
* Respond to guest requests, questions, and concerns professionally; escalate issues to management where necessary and follow up to ensure resolution.
* Keep the front desk and reception area clean, organised, and presentable at all times to reflect a professional and welcoming atmosphere.
* Sort and distribute incoming mail, faxes, and deliveries; prepare outgoing mail and other communications.
* Assist with basic clerical duties such as data entry, filing, photocopying, updating guest records, and preparing daily front desk reports.
* Liaise with housekeeping and maintenance teams to ensure rooms are ready for guests and that requests are communicated and fulfilled.
* Process guest payments, maintain accurate records of transactions, and support end-of-day reconciliation procedures.
Requirements
* Proven experience in hospitality reception, customer service, or a related role.
* Strong customer focus with an ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
* Excellent organisational and multitasking skills.
* High level of communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Familiarity with booking and property management software is desired.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Remuneration: $68,000 - $78,000 + Super
