About Us Located just outside the town of Crows Nest on Queensland’s Darling Downs, established in 1974, Ironbark is an 800 hectare Outdoor Education Centre and working farm operated by St Peters Lutheran College. At St Peters every Year 9 student undertakes this iconic 5 week immersive experience as part of their final year of Junior High. Ironbark seeks to challenge, grow and form St Peters young people through the 4 key elements of the program – community living, outdoor adventure, farm skills and environmental awareness. The Ironbark Program provides staff with the opportunity to make a transformative difference in the lives of young people. The Maintenance Officer works within a small team implementing and performing maintenance schedules for all Ironbark facilities, equipment, motor vehicles and property. This position will, at times, work with the students to achieve these tasks. Key Responsibilities Perform and coordinate maintenance of facilities, equipment, vehicles, and accommodation to ensure a safe, functional and well-maintained environment. Lead and support student groups in daily work programs, activities and weekend supervision, ensuring duty of care, pastoral support, and meaningful learning experiences. Deliver high-quality outdoor education programs aligned with Ironbark philosophy, contributing to students' personal, spiritual and community development. Manage tools, equipment and asset registers, and coordinate external contractors for specialised maintenance in line with safety and compliance requirements. Assist with land and livestock management including farming activities, fencing, pasture care, and animal welfare. What You Bring Demonstrated experience engaging with teenagers in educational, residential, youth, or volunteer settings, with an understanding of adolescent development. Willingness and capability to lead and supervise student groups safely, delivering engaging, experiential outdoor learning programs. Experience and/or knowledge in building, carpentry, mechanical work, and general maintenance; farming, horticulture, or property management experience is advantageous. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, build positive relationships, and handle sensitive matters confidentially. Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including manual labour and outdoor work, along with any additional skills or interests (e.g. 4WD, chainsaw, music, environment, photography) that enhance community life.
