Youth Family & Community Resource Officer
Provide high quality support and intervention services to young people subject to a youth justice intervention, their families, and communities with a goal of reducing the over representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in the youth justice system.
Mandatory Requirements
Drivers' license: must hold an unrestricted "C" Class driver's licence. Officers are required to drive government vehicles as part of day-to-day work.
Position designated as Regulated employment; requires a valid Blue Card linked with the organisation prior to starting.
Travel within the region for site visits and to other regional/departmental offices may be required, including overnight stays.
Applicants should provide a referee who is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person able to attest to the applicant's cultural capabilities.
Role Specific / Technical Skills
Understanding of the impacts of historical and contemporary policy and practices upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and ability to engage and communicate effectively and with humility.
Knowledge and/or experience in assessment and case-work intervention relating to young offenders, and theoretical perspectives relating to youth justice practice.
Responsibilities
Deliver support and intervention services to young people subject to a youth justice intervention, their families, and communities in accordance with legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
Implement culturally appropriate individualised case plans through designing and implementing intervention strategies, negotiating with service providers, and linking clients to required services.
Participate productively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team involving a range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers to achieve quality service outcomes.
Develop effective working relationships with families, elders, community members, community agencies and government departments.
Maintain case records, prepare reports, perform performance reporting and data entry to ensure casework and organisational accountability.
Actively participate in training and development activities to maintain knowledge and skill base in accordance with departmental priorities and objectives.
Contribute to the good governance and objectives of the directorate and department.
Demonstrate cultural capability and commitment to developing cultural capability to support inclusive culture, Human Rights Act **** and departmental programs.
