We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Lead (APS6) or Project Manager (EL1) to join the Office of Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) within the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB).

This is a new team, and you will have the opportunity to shape the culture and work practices as you implement the FWO's ability to undertake criminal investigation of intentional underpayments across Australia.
Full-time and part-time hours and hybrid work arrangements are available.

To be considered for the EL1 role, you must satisfy the additional selection criteria requirements set out in this position description.
You may apply for the APS6 role, the EL1 role, or both.

About the FWO The FWO is an independent statutory office established by the Fair Work Act 2009 (Fair Work Act).
Our functions include:
Providing education, assistance, advice, and guidance to employers, employees, outworkers, outworker entities, and organizations.
Promoting and monitoring compliance with workplace laws.
Inquiring into and investigating breaches of the Fair Work Act.
Taking appropriate enforcement actions.
Performing statutory functions efficiently, effectively, ethically, and economically.

Eligibility Must be an Australian citizen.
Must hold or be willing to obtain a current Australian Government Security Clearance (AGSVA) or Baseline security clearance.
About the Branch The Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) is a new branch established to enforce a criminal offence for employers failing to pay employee entitlements, introduced by the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes) Act 2023.
The CIB will investigate contraventions and refer matters for prosecution, establishing systems and policies for dual civil and criminal regulation.

The Project Management Office will establish project management frameworks and uplift staff capabilities within the branch.

This role involves high-profile work with significant public and stakeholder interest, requiring comfort with scrutiny.

Typical Duties As the Project Lead (APS6) or Project Manager (EL1), your responsibilities may include:
Leading the implementation of a project management framework and PMO within the CIB.
Developing and executing plans to uplift project management capabilities.
Providing expertise and leadership on project management practices.
Leading project planning and execution aligned with agency priorities.
Overseeing governance, reporting, and compliance.
Managing risks, dependencies, and constraints.
Conducting research and analysis for decision-making.
Managing budgets, contracts, and procurement.
Engaging stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure alignment.
Interstate and overnight travel may be required.

Selection Criteria To succeed at both levels, candidates should possess:
Proven project management experience with success in using waterfall and agile methodologies.
Expertise in business process improvement and designing future state solutions.
Ability to provide technical advice, training, and support throughout project lifecycles.
Leadership and collaboration skills, influencing change and negotiating with stakeholders.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
EL1 candidates must also demonstrate:
Ability to work independently at a higher level.
5+ years of experience managing complex initiatives.
Experience in leading change, mentoring, coaching, and training staff.
Practitioner project management qualifications or certifications are highly desirable.
